I have a fun vibrant watercolor card to share with you today. This card features the latest release by Rachel Vass.
Watercolors are supposed to be soft and delicate, but I like to exaggerate them to make the colors more vibrant. That really satisfies my taste.
The Card
This is what I’m talking about. This card features the latest release by Rachel Vass Designs called Summer Bloom. I printed this beautiful flower image on a Mixed Media Paper in light cream ink because I was going for a no-line watercoloring.
Watercoloring Process
I picked up my beloved Peerless Watercolor Sheets for this project. I’ve painted watercolored flowers with just one color, darker tone for the shadows and pale tone for the highlighted areas in the past. For this particular project, I wanted the red to fade into yellow.
I used Royal Crimson and Deep Yellow for the petals. I started with one petal at a time using these two colors trying to blend the colors in the middle of the petals. Then, I added a little bit of Sepia Brown to my Royal Crimson for the darkest corners of the petals. After the first layer was dry, I went with the second more intense coloring. There I achieved my vibrant watercolor card look i was going for.
Background
Finally, for the background I used a light wash of clean water first and then picked up Pearl Gray and painted the area concentrating more towards the flowers and fading away from the flowers.
Once the painting was dry, I used white and black gouache and spattered it all over the painting. How fun!
Sentiment
The sentiment “Celebrating You Today” felt like a perfect match for this card. I stamped this Versamark Watermark Ink and embossed using white embossing powder.
Diecutting the watercolor piece using the stitched rectangle from Mama Elephant was the next step which then was adhered on to a top folding landscape card made out of Recollections Heavy Wight Cardstock in white.
Final Touch
For embellishment I used some sequins from my stash in silver and clear.
