You’re a Treasure Pirate Monkey Card

In my latest cardmaking adventure, I had the pleasure of working with the Whittle Pirate Monkey Kit. This kit contains the dies and a mini stamp set with sentiments to go with the theme.

Die Cutting

I began by die-cutting all the elements using both white and gold cardstock. Gold was reserved for the metal parts to give a touch of elegance. For the ship and treasure chest, I used Copic markers E15 and E18. The adorable pirate monkey came to life with E31 and E37, and a hint of R20 added a rosy touch to the cheeks. The hats and eyepatch were colored with a black Copic marker, while the flag received a vibrant touch with R46. For the ship’s sail, I used N1 and N0, blending with a colorless marker for a seamless finish.

Creating Background

For the background, I used a piece of watercolor paper with Distress Oxide inks in Salty Ocean and Antique Linen. I applied the ink by smooshing it onto my glass mat, spraying it with water, and picking it up with packaging plastic to add texture to the watercolor paper. Although I loved the initial look, it seemed too busy when I added the elements, so I muted it by adding a vellum layer on top. I die-cut the vellum using a large rectangle from the Double Scalloped Stitched Frames die, along with blue cardstock using the same die. I then cut the blue rectangle into three pieces, using the inside and outside pieces from the bottom and the middle frame to create a unique border.

Arranging the Elements

To ensure a seamless assembly, I temporarily taped the vellum pieces together from the back. I then carefully arranged the colored elements on the blue-framed vellum piece. Some elements were adhered with liquid glue, while others were popped up with foam tape for dimension. I crated a scene where the pirate monkeys are sailing the ship.

Adding the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I used the “You’re a Treasure” stamp from the kit. I stamped it with Versamark Ink on black cardstock and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. After trimming it into a small strip, I added it to the bottom right of my card.

Final Touches

To complete the card, I added a few highlights on the hat and stripes on the red flag using a white gel pen. This added a playful and polished look to my creation.

This whimsical card was a joy to create with the Whittle Pirate Monkey Kit, and I hope it inspires you to embark on your own cardmaking adventures. Stay tuned for more creative projects and tutorials!
