Beveled Sentiments and Iridescent Accents

Creating cards that pack a punch with both color and texture is always an exciting adventure, and the Beveled Sentiments Collection from Spellbinders offers just that. Today, I’m sharing three cards that showcase bold, embossed sentiments and colorful, layered backgrounds, making them perfect for any occasion.

Creating Layered Backgrounds with Distress Oxides

For the backgrounds, I used Distress Oxide inks in three vibrant colors—Twisted Citron, Villainous Potion, and Salty Ocean. These shades blend beautifully, and the technique I used allowed the colors to layer and interact in interesting ways. To begin, I dabbed the inkpads directly onto my glass media mat, then spritzed the ink with water. By pressing the cardstock panels onto the mat, I was able to transfer the ink in a “smooshing” technique, creating a dynamic and distressed color effect. I repeated this process with the leftover ink on the mat, ensuring the panels developed depth and texture as the colors layered.

Embossing with the Beveled Sentiments Folders

Once my panels were dry, it was time to bring out the stars of the show: the Beveled Sentiments 3D embossing folders. I chose the Beveled Hello folder for one card and the Beveled A Gift For You folder for the other two. Running the panels through my Spellbinders die-cutting machine with the 3D embossing sandwich created crisp, dimensional sentiments that covered the entire A2 card front.

Enhancing Embossed Sentiments with Iridescent Watercolor

To make these large embossed sentiments stand out even more, I carefully painted the raised facets with iridescent pearl watercolor. This added a soft, shimmery highlight that caught the light beautifully. For one of the cards, I took a slightly different approach, using iridescent silver watercolor to accentuate the shadowed areas of the letters. Both techniques gave the embossing an extra layer of depth and shine, drawing attention to the sentiment while keeping the overall design cohesive.

Adding Floral Accents with Mini Blooms and Sprigs

To add a bit of floral charm, I turned to the Mini Blooms and Sprigs die set. I cut out flowers in shades of purple and green to complement the vibrant backgrounds and added a few delicate leaves cut from iridescent cardstock. This echoed the shimmer from the embossed sentiments and tied the design together. By carefully placing the flowers and leaves around some of the letters, I was able to create a balanced and finished look without overshadowing the bold sentiments.

These cards are a perfect example of how you can combine colorful, textured backgrounds, 3D embossed sentiments, and just a touch of floral elegance to create impactful designs. Whether you’re sending a cheerful “Hello” or a heartfelt “Gift For You,” these cards are sure to make an impression!
